Hi, I’m Suzanne Cross, LCSW.
Finding the right therapist is about more than choosing a therapy approach. It's about finding someone you feel comfortable enough with to do meaningful work.
I provide trauma therapy and psychotherapy services in Fair Oaks, California, and online throughout California for adults who are looking for more than insight alone. I believe healing happens within a relationship where you feel understood, challenged in the right ways, and supported at a pace that feels manageable. Using a thoughtful, collaborative, and focused approach, I specialize in helping adults heal from trauma and the ways it can show up through anxiety, depression, relationship patterns, and difficulty feeling like themselves. Whether you're starting therapy for the first time or returning because previous therapy helped but you still feel stuck, my goal is to help you move beyond simply understanding your experiences and toward lasting change.
My work integrates EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and nervous system-informed approaches alongside talk therapy, allowing treatment to be tailored to your unique needs. If you’d like to explore whether this approach might be a good fit, I invite you to learn more about me or visit my online calendar to schedule a free 20-minute consultation call.

My Approach
I work with adults who are doing their best to hold it together but still feel stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected. Many of the clients I see have spent much time trying to understand themselves through insight alone, only to find that something deeper still feels unresolved.
My approach is relational, trauma-informed, and paced with care. Rather than focusing only on symptom management, I help clients understand why certain patterns developed and how to relate to their inner experience in a way that creates real change.
What this looks like in practice
In our work together, I help you:
-
Slow down and notice what’s happening beneath the surface
-
Develop a steadier relationship with emotions, thoughts, and body sensations
-
Understand patterns that may be rooted in earlier experiences or relationships
-
Build more choice, flexibility, and self-trust over time
Some sessions may feel reflective and grounding; others may focus on working more directly with specific memories, emotions, or relational patterns.
Modalities
I integrate several evidence-based approaches, tailoring therapy to you as an individual.
These may include:
-
Trauma-informed therapy, which recognizes how past experiences shape present reactions
-
Internal Family Systems (IFS), which helps you understand and relate to different “parts” of yourself with more compassion and clarity
-
EMDR therapy in Fair Oaks or online, for adults who feel stuck even after previous therapy. EMDR is a structured approach that can help the nervous system process unresolved or overwhelming experiences
-
Talk therapy, used thoughtfully to support insight, meaning-making, and integration
You don’t need to know anything about these approaches, or decide which one you want, before starting therapy. We’ll figure out together what feels most supportive.
A collaborative process
I see therapy as a collaborative relationship, not something done to you. Together, we work toward greater ease, understanding, and connection, both within yourself and in your relationships.
If you’re unsure whether trauma therapy is right for you, or whether my approach would be a good fit, I’m happy to talk more during a consultation.
Therapy that honors your nervous system and your story
-
Trauma responses are adaptive - not personal flaws. We’ll make sense of what your system learned to do to survive.
-
I move at a pace that respects your nervous system. EMDR and IFS can help you process trauma without prolonged retelling.
-
Anxiety and depression often have roots. We’ll work gently at the “why” beneath the symptoms while building practical skills.
-
You’ll be met as a whole person, not a diagnosis. Labels are used only when they’re helpful; relationship and meaning stay central.
-
You don’t have to have the perfect words. You can begin trauma therapy in the Sacramento area or online with a felt sense of “something’s off” and we can move toward clarity together.
