Hi, I’m Suzanne Cross, LCSW.

Many people find that insight and coping skills gained in therapy are helpful, and yet some patterns still don’t fully shift. Trauma-focused therapy can support change at a deeper, more embodied level.

I offer EMDR, IFS, and KAP therapy for adults in Fair Oaks and across California who are ready for focused, relational, and thoughtfully paced trauma work.

My Approach

I work with people who are thoughtful, capable, and doing their best, yet still feel stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected inside. Many of the clients I see have spent years trying to understand themselves through insight alone, only to find that something deeper still feels unresolved.

My approach to therapy is relational, trauma-informed, and paced with care. Rather than focusing only on symptom management, I help clients understand why certain patterns developed and how to relate to their inner experience in a way that creates real change.

Therapy with me is not about fixing what’s “wrong” with you. It’s about creating enough safety and support for your system to do what it already knows how to do - heal, integrate, and move forward.

What this looks like in practice

In our work together, I help you:

  • Slow down and notice what’s happening beneath the surface

  • Develop a steadier relationship with emotions, thoughts, and body sensations

  • Understand patterns that may be rooted in earlier experiences or relationships

  • Build more choice, flexibility, and self-trust over time

Some sessions may feel reflective and grounding; others may focus on working more directly with specific memories, emotions, or relational patterns. We’ll move at a pace that feels respectful of your nervous system and your life.

Modalities

I integrate several evidence-based approaches, always tailoring the work to the individual rather than forcing a one-size-fits-all method.

These may include:

  • Trauma-informed therapy, which recognizes how past experiences shape present reactions

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS), which helps you understand and relate to different “parts” of yourself with more compassion and clarity

  • EMDR, a structured approach that can help the nervous system process unresolved or overwhelming experiences

  • Talk therapy, used thoughtfully to support insight, meaning-making, and integration

You don’t need to know anything about these approaches, or decide which one you want, before starting therapy. We’ll figure out together what feels most supportive.

A collaborative process

I see therapy as a collaborative relationship, not something done to you. I bring clinical training, attunement, and structure; you bring your lived experience. Together, we work toward greater ease, understanding, and connection, both within yourself and in your relationships.

If you’re unsure whether therapy is right for you, or whether my approach would be a good fit, I’m happy to talk more during a consultation.

Therapy that honors your nervous system and your story

  • Trauma responses are adaptive - not personal flaws. We’ll make sense of what your system learned to do to survive.

  • I move at a pace that respects your nervous system. EMDR and IFS can help you process trauma without prolonged retelling.

  • Anxiety and depression often have roots. We’ll work gently at the “why” beneath the symptoms while building practical skills.

  • You’ll be met as a whole person, not a diagnosis. Labels are used only when they’re helpful; relationship and meaning stay central.

  • You don’t have to have the perfect words. We can start with a felt sense of “something’s off” and get clarity together.
